What
is the NET… and How Do I Join?
In
our last newsletter, I wrote about how the Official C5/C6 Registry
Forum could be used by those members who felt their email was too
clogged by C5/C6Net messages. Over 80 members have registered for the
forum, so please check it out… it’s part of your membership!

What
Is The C5/C6Net?
This
is a common question we received from our member surveys that were
returned to the Registry Office. The C5/C6Net is an Internet email
discussion group available only to Registry members. If you are not
familiar with Internet email groups, think of them as an electronic
distribution list. A group email address is set up, and any email sent
to this address is forwarded to all the members of the list. At any
given time there could be several “conversations” going on at once,
and you can be involved in all of them! You can discuss topics like
upcoming and past events, announce trip plans, set up meetings with
members, discuss problems and technical issues, pass along tips, or
talk about Corvette parts or sales information. All messages are kept
in an archive log for later searching and review by our members. The
C5/C6Net is an open forum and rules are enforced to ensure acceptable
social behavior. Foul Language and Personal Attacks will not be
tolerated and will result in immediate removal from the list.
What
about Privacy?
Many
of you have asked for a way to share information without the rest of
the Internet being involved — well, the C5/C6Net is your answer. The
C5/C6Net is far more secure than your regular email. Only members of
the Official C5/C6 Registry may access it and that’s only after the
list master has personally approved their subscription. Messages only
go to members subscribed on the list. But remember that information
has a way of getting disseminated. Please check out this link for the
easy subscribing procedure.

On a more personal note, I have been busy putting the miles on my new
Corvette, looking for any excuse to drive somewhere, and I just turned
8,000 happy and (mostly) carefree miles. I love looking at my monthly OnStar email report and comparing the average daily miles over the
last five months that I’ve owned my C6. You can really tell when my
“real” job requires me to travel out of town and the Vette is only
used by my hard working wife, Gail, for her daily commute to work
.
I have experienced one problem with my new vette. I got up one morning
and backed out of the garage. The DIC told me that the left rear tire
was down to 20 pounds. I checked it out and sure enough there was a
large nail inserted all the way to the head, about an inch from the
edge of the tire. After driving it to a local tire shop, I was glad
that C6’s came standard with runflats! Because of the proximity to the
sidewall, this runflat was unrepairable and it would cost about $450
to put on an identical replacement. At this point my brain kicked in
and I vaguely remembered buying some sort of tire warranty from my
Dealer when I purchased my C6. A quick phone call to my Dealer and
they confirmed that I had, in fact, enrolled in a plan that would
provide up to four tires over the life of the coverage. An hour later,
I had my new Super Car Z51 tire installed and I was on my way! Based
on the high cost of these C6 tires, I would highly recommend that you
consider such a plan, if offered by your Dealer, because mine has more
than paid for itself already.
Let me shift gears here… I recently had a good friend, Thomas Klein
from Wuppertal, Germany, travel to the US on business for a few weeks.
Thomas has had many fine automobiles in his life (Audi, Mercedes Benz,
etc.), but he has never had an opportunity to drive, or should I say
experience,
a C6 Corvette. So I did what any good friend would do and I put him
behind the wheel of my C6 and told him to go have FUN! And he did! He
told me later that he did miss the ability to run unhampered by those
pesky US speed limits, like he can back home, but he managed some
impressive driving nonetheless. Chalk up another European convert for
the Corvette!!
As always, I welcome your comments and feedback on how to improve the
services we provide. We look forward to seeing you at our biggest
party of the year, our annual C5/C6 Bash on April 24-26, 2008, and
lots of other events as the weather warms up.
